Civil Engineer Technologist (Structures)

Minimum Qualifications:

• BSc. / B Eng OR B Tech in Civil Engineering (Structures)

• Postgraduate qualification in Structures, Asset Management, Project Management, Water Engineering or a related field will be an added advantage.

• Professional Registration with ECSA either as Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr. Tech Eng.)

• Minimum 5 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in civil engineering, preferably in water or wastewater treatment, bulk water, pump stations, treatment works, municipal/public utility infrastructure environments.
• 3 years’ post registration relevant structural engineering experience.

• Conduct feasibility studies and business cases
• Identify and implement appropriate data collection for the analysis stage of projects
• Apply sound engineering principles to analyse collected data
• Generate sound engineering solutions for projects using appropriate design standards
• Perform detailed structural analysis and safety assessments for all buildings and concrete structures
• Review and verify structural integrity and compliance with relevant standards and specifications
• Participate in project planning, design reviews, and technical coordination meetings
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated project
• Monitor Structural Designs
• Assess technical design work of specialist consultants
• Ensure designs meet quality, safety, and operational requirements
• Ensure implementation Compliance
• Ensure compliance with General Conditions of Water Supply document
•   Formulate and review policies and ensure compliance with policies
• Approve plans and designs
• Select the standard conditions of contracts for projects
• Develop appropriate special conditions of contracts for projects when required
• Commission final Designs
• Ensure authorisation and initiation and creation of detailed, actionable engineering blueprints and technical specifications
• Render Draughting Services
• Oversee and coordinate draughting services to ensure drawings meet industry standards and project requirements
• Asset management and performance optimisation
• Apply asset management principles aligned to lifecycle planning, risk, criticality, maintenance strategies, asset information quality and continuous improvement.

• Sound understanding of applicable South African design codes and engineering standards.
• Strong technical report writing and calculation documentation skills
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary project teams
• Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, risk assessment practices, legal appointments and contractor management requirements
• Knowledge of water sector legislation, compulsory water and sanitation service standards, environmental compliance requirements and relevant engineering codes and standards
• Knowledge of asset management principles, lifecycle costing, reliability improvement, maintenance planning and continuous improvement methodologies
• Knowledge of public sector procurement, contract administration, Supply Chain Management processes and the PFMA or equivalent governance requirements applicable to the organisation.
• Working knowledge of labour relations good practice, performance management, disciplinary and grievance principles, employment equity and skills development requirements applicable to supervising staff in South Africa
• Computer literacy, including spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, CMMS/EAM systems and relevant design/modelling software
• Valid unendorsed driver’s license and willingness to travel to plants and project sites as required
