About the Forward Deployed Engineer Role The Forward Deployed Engineer plays a critical role in partnering with business units to identify opportunities and implement digital solutions that enhance operational value throughout the mine value chain.

This position integrates business analysis, solution design, data engineering, AI, and software development to build scalable, secure, and supportable digital products that align with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities of Forward Deployed Engineer Jobs in Solwezi Business Analysis:

Collaborate with stakeholders across operations and IT to understand challenges, elicit and prioritize requirements, and map business processes to develop practical digital solutions that improve operational workflows. Support change management and track benefits realization to ensure measurable outcomes.

Solution Design:

  • Design and implement secure, maintainable solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and site technology.
  • Participate in technology evaluations, balancing reuse, purchase, or build decisions to optimize capability, cost, and supportability.
  • Apply security and integration best practices to protect data and connect systems reliably.

Data and Integrations:

  • Develop and maintain reliable data pipelines and integrations connecting business and operational technology systems.
  • Leverage data engineering skills to model, store, and transform data into trusted business assets, and deliver actionable analytics and reports to support decision-making.

AI Solutions:

  • Utilize generative AI and machine learning techniques to enhance productivity, decision quality, and operational performance.
  • Develop AI and knowledge-engineering solutions based on trusted enterprise data while adhering to responsible AI principles to ensure ethical and beneficial outcomes.

Software Engineering:

  • Build, deploy, and maintain digital products that address real business challenges.
  • Employ sound software design principles, coding standards, and quality assurance practices.
  • Use DevOps methodologies and modern platforms to automate delivery and maintain secure, stable production environments.
  • Qualifications and Experience Minimum Grade 12 Certificate required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or information systems.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud, data, or software engineering are advantageous.
  • All academic qualifications and results must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in solution delivery as a developer, implementation consultant, or engineer across diverse platforms.
  • Strong background in business or systems analysis and development, with proven ability to translate operational needs into effective solutions.
  • Proficient in data engineering, including databases, SQL, system integration, and data governance.
  • Experience in analytics and application of AI or machine learning, including generative AI, with a commitment to responsible AI practices.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Python, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS, with knowledge of SOLID principles, design patterns, and testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Git, JIRA, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Agile delivery, UX, and design-thinking approaches.
  • Ability to design secure, supportable solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, making informed reuse, buy, or build decisions.
  • Experience or knowledge of open-pit mining operations and related applications (fleet management, process control, smelter, safety, data collection) is a plus.
  • Membership in ICTAZ or EIZ is an advantage.
  • Behavioural Competencies Strong understanding of mining operations with a product-oriented mindset to solve practical business problems.
  • Ability to decompose complex problems using structured, systems-level thinking.
  • Sound decision-making skills under shifting priorities, with willingness to seek guidance when necessary.

  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and presentations.
