Employment Information

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate planned and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Ensure plant and equipment achieve high levels of operational availability.
  • Monitor equipment performance and respond urgently to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities with the Plant Foreman and Service Supervisors.
  • Develop and manage daily job plans and maintenance schedules.
  • Implement OEM and preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Identify equipment defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate engineering maintenance records and equipment history.
  • Review, verify, and approve service reports and job cards.
  • Ensure engineering documentation is updated and maintained.
  • Verify stock issues and ensure incorrect issues are returned.
  • Submit weekly maintenance schedules to procurement to ensure timely availability of tools, consumables, and spare parts.
  • Ensure full compliance with Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) standards and legislation.
  • Promote and enforce safe working practices.
  • Ensure employees comply with PPE requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections to verify work quality and safety compliance.
  • Ensure maintenance activities meet company and client quality standards.
  • Lead, coach and develop engineering personnel.
  • Conduct performance management and skills development initiatives.
  • Chair disciplinary processes where required.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure accurate HR-related documentation, including:
    • Timesheets
    • Leave records
    • Overtime records
    • Training documentation
    • Disciplinary records
  • Liaise daily with Operations and Production Management regarding:
    • Plant availability
    • Equipment breakdowns
    • Maintenance priorities
    • Budget requirements
  • Conduct daily and weekly maintenance meetings.
  • Monitor maintenance costs against budget.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within workshops and engineering areas.
  • Communicate maintenance schedules to relevant stakeholders in advance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional engineering duties as required by management.
Requirements: 

Qualifications
  • N6 Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or
  • BTech / BSc Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical)
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – Mines and Works
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a legally appointed Section Engineer within a mining or mineral processing plant environment.
  • Proven experience managing engineering maintenance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative and planned maintenance systems.
  • Experience working in heavy industrial or mining operations.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong technical knowledge of mining and coal processing plant equipment.
  • Sound understanding of engineering maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of statutory mining and engineering legislation.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Strong leadership and people management abilities.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop technical teams.
  • Financial awareness, including maintenance budgeting and cost control.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Computer literacy with experience using engineering maintenance systems (CMMS).
