Our Client, a leading global strategic management consulting / professional services firm is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel (Contracts & Compliance) / Legal & Compliance Manager to join its dynamic Cape Town office.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted in-house legal partner, providing commercial legal advice, contract lifecycle management (CLM), compliance oversight and legal risk management in a fast-paced consulting environment.

The role supports contract negotiation, bid execution and project delivery, ensuring legal frameworks enable effective commercial operations.

The ideal candidate will come from a professional services, management consulting, advisory or in-house legal environment, with exposure to commercial contracts and project-based work, particularly within donor-funded, public sector, infrastructure or development environments.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders and support international consulting delivery and multi-jurisdictional project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full contract lifecycle management (CLM) process (bids, drafting, negotiation, execution, renewals, close-out)
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts (client, framework, consortium, subcontractor, supplier agreements)
  • Provide legal advisory, commercial law support and legal risk management across the business
  • Support bid and tender processes through early identification of contractual risks
  • Develop and maintain compliance frameworks, internal controls and governance processes
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, including POPIA and data protection laws
  • Support company secretarial and corporate governance functions
  • Manage B-BBEE compliance and reporting processes
  • Deliver internal legal and compliance training across the organisation

Requirements

  • Minimum formal qualification LLB university degree and admittance as a practicing attorney or advocate in the High Court of South Africa
  • 8+ years’ experience in corporate, commercial, or in-house legal roles, ideally within strategic management consulting, professional services, advisory, or project-based environments, includinginfrastructure, energy, water, transport, sustainability, or development finance sectors (World Bank, AfDB, FCDO, USAID)
  • Strong experience in contract drafting, contract negotiation, and commercial contract management
  • Experience working in consulting, professional services, or project-based environments
  • Exposure to donor-funded, public sector, or infrastructure projects
  • Experience in compliance, legal risk management, and internal controls
  • Company secretarial experience
  • Strong knowledge of POPIA and data protection / privacy frameworks
  • Experience in B-BBEE compliance and regulatory processes
  • Experience in multi-jurisdictional or international environments
