M&A Associate (Mining & Metals)

This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious M&A professional looking to take ownership of transactions, build lasting client relationships, and work alongside some of the industry's most experienced corporate finance professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and executing buy-side and sell-side M&A transactions from origination through to completion.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with corporate clients, investors, and key industry stakeholders.
  • Identifying new business opportunities and converting prospects into advisory mandates.
  • Preparing client presentations, pitch books, teasers, information memoranda, and marketing materials.
  • Conducting detailed financial modeling, company valuations, and transaction analysis.
  • Structuring complex corporate finance and private capital transactions.
  • Leading transaction negotiations and coordinating with legal and financial advisors throughout the deal process.
  • Supporting capital raising initiatives across debt, equity, royalty, and alternative funding structures.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across multiple African offices on cross-border mandates.
  • Mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continued growth of the advisory practice.
  • Assisting with strategic business development and sector-focused initiatives within the Metals & Mining and Energy industries.

Job Experience & Skills Required

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, or a related discipline.
  • CFA, CA(SA), FMVA, or other relevant postgraduate qualifications will be advantageous.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience within Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Finance, Transaction Advisory, or Investment Banking.
  • Demonstrated experience executing M&A transactions from origination through to financial close.
  • Strong exposure to the Metals & Mining sector is essential.
  • Experience in private capital raising, debt advisory, or broader corporate finance transactions will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience within an investment bank is highly preferred.

  • Advanced financial modeling and valuation expertise.
  • Strong commercial and transaction structuring capabilities.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication abilities.
  • Proven relationship management and business development experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously.
Non-Negotiables
  • Proven M&A execution experience.
  • Strong understanding of the Metals & Mining industry.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with senior executives, investors, and advisors.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with excellent commercial judgment.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and the ability to mentor junior professionals.
  • Willingness to work on cross-border transactions across Africa.
