About the Role Reporting directly to the Program Director, the Project Manager will oversee the Sustainable Rural Water Service Delivery Programme, managing 78 solar-powered piped water systems. This full-time, fixed-term contract position (12 months) demands strategic leadership in programming and technical implementation across Water Access, Operations & Maintenance, Sanitation and Hygiene, Church and Community Mobilization, as well as Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL).
The successful candidate will ensure the program meets its technical and sustainability goals while maintaining strong partnerships with government bodies and local stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Lead the project launch and partnership inception, ensuring alignment with LWI’s global strategy and government co-financing frameworks.
Provide visionary leadership to a multidisciplinary team of 17 members and oversee the Circuit Rider/Area Pump Minder network. Ensure all programs comply with LWI’s global quality standards and promote inclusive, innovative leadership.
Advise on government and global WASH policies and lead stakeholder engagement with ministries, councils, and district WASH committees. Manage project execution, donor compliance, and prepare timely reports including quarterly performance and annual sustainability reviews.
Oversee program budget management based in the Petauke WPA office. Maintain system functionality above 95% across all water systems and supervise recruitment and performance of field teams.
Manage external consultants and hardware contracts, including Remote Monitoring Unit software migration. Foster strong relationships with government officials, church and traditional leaders, and community members across six districts.
Support LWI Zambia’s potential transition to a Technical Assistance and Advisory Partner. Qualifications and Experience Master’s degree in Engineering, Public Health, Development Studies, Water Resources Management, or related fields.
8 to 10 years of senior-level experience managing WASH or rural development programs; PMP or PMD Pro certification preferred. Proven personnel and team management experience.
At least 3 years of financial analysis and budget management experience. Skills and Competencies Committed Christian with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Strong knowledge of WASH sector guidelines, best practices, program design, and report writing. Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral, including presentation abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently and adapt to rural environments with limited infrastructure.
Valid driver’s license.
