Job Description : Diagnostic Radiology Center Manager

Location              : Kitwe, Zambia

Reports To          : Board of Directors / Chief Medical Officer

Position Type    : Full-time, Permanent

Job Purpose

The Diagnostic Radiology Center Manager is responsible for the overall operational, financial, and administrative management of the radiology center. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality diagnostic imaging services (such as X-ray, Ultrasound, CT, and MRI) while maintaining strict regulatory compliance, optimizing patient workflows, and driving the strategic growth of the center in the Zambian healthcare market.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operations & Patient Workflow Management

–       Oversee daily center operations to ensure optimal patient throughput and minimal wait times.

–       Implement and maintain efficient workflows for patient registration, scheduling, imaging, and report dispatch.

–       Manage the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to guarantee seamless data handling.

–       Ensure the center maintains a clean, safe, and patient-friendly environment.

 

2. Financial Management & Business Growth

–       Develop, manage, and monitor the center’s annual operating budget.

–       Oversee billing processes, cash management, and reconciliation, ensuring leakages are minimized.

–       Formulate and execute marketing strategies to build strong referral networks with local hospitals, private clinics, and general practitioners across Zambia.

–       Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as patient volume, revenue per modality, and operating costs to drive profitability.

 

3. Human Resource Leadership

–       Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team including Radiographers, Sonographers, Radiologists, nurses, and administrative staff.

–       Design and manage staff duty rosters to ensure adequate coverage and compliance with local labor laws.

–       Conduct regular performance appraisals and identify continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities for clinical staff.

 

4. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance

–       Ensure total compliance with the Radiation Protection Authority (RPA) of Zambia guidelines and licensing requirements.

–       Maintain alignment with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and the Ministry of Health regulations.

–       Oversee rigorous Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) programs for all radiation and imaging equipment.

–       Enforce strict radiation safety protocols (ALARA principle) for both patients and staff.

 

5. Supply Chain & Equipment Maintenance

–       Manage relationships with equipment vendors (e.g., GE, Siemens, Philips) and oversee Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) contracts to minimize machine downtime.

–       Supervise the procurement and inventory control of radiology consumables (e.g., contrast media, films, syringes).

 

Required Qualifications & Experience

 

Education:

–       Bachelor’s degree in Radiography, Diagnostic Imaging, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.

–       An MBA or a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management will be a distinct advantage.

 

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a healthcare management or supervisory role.

Direct experience managing a diagnostic imaging facility or a major hospital radiology department is highly preferred.

 

If from a clinical background, must be registered and hold a valid practising license from the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) or the Radiation Protection Authority (RPA).

 

Core Competencies & Skills

–       Market Knowledge: Solid understanding of the Zambian healthcare landscape, including private insurance dynamics (NHIMA and private providers) and medical referral systems.

–       Technical Savvy: Strong familiarity with modern radiology modalities (Digital X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT, MRI) and IT systems (RIS/PACS).

–       Leadership: Proven ability to manage diverse teams, resolve conflicts, and foster a collaborative work culture.

–       Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, corporate clients, medical professionals, and regulatory bodies.
