We are seeking an experienced Chemical Process Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to design, optimise and commission complex chemical process systems while working on technically challenging projects with international impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop process designs for chemical manufacturing plants from concept through commissioning.
- Prepare and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications and process calculations.
- Perform mass and energy balances, hydraulic calculations and equipment sizing.
- Design and optimise reactors, mixing systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping networks and utility systems.
- Conduct HAZOP, SIL, LOPA and other process safety studies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes, safety regulations and quality standards.
- Support plant commissioning, start-up, performance testing and process optimisation.
- Investigate process deviations, identify root causes and implement sustainable engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineers throughout project execution.
- Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports and operating procedures.
- Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication and construction activities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant safety, reliability and operational efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
- BEng or BSc Chemical Engineering.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA or eligible for registration.
- 5–10 years' experience in process engineering within chemical manufacturing, explosives, petrochemical, mining, pharmaceutical or related industries.
- Strong understanding of process safety management principles.
- Experience developing engineering documentation including:
- PFDs
- P&IDs
- Equipment Datasheets
- Control Philosophies
- Cause & Effect Matrices
- Experience performing process simulations using Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus or equivalent software.
- Knowledge of pressure vessel, piping and process design codes.
- Familiarity with hazardous area classifications and risk assessments.
- Excellent analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
