Zambart is globally renowned for its interdisciplinary research on HIV and Tuberculosis and has contributed to HIV and TB policy and practice at national and global levels. Zambart’s research portfolio now includes a broader scope of urgent public health issues.

Zambart is part of The Infectious Disease Equity for Africa (InDiE) Consortium which aims to develop and evaluate approaches to breaking the inverse laws, maximizing and accelerating the role that new prevention interventions play in generating equitable health outcomes for infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa.

In Zambia and building on the history of conducting the GLOBE-HPV Study, “Breaking the inverse laws; maximizing and accelerating the health equity impact of new prevention interventions for infectious diseases in Africa” (InDiE Study) has potential to contribute to improved health outcomes by exploring whether and how inverse laws apply to the cascade of cervical cancer elimination across age groups, from HPV vaccination through to screening and treatment for cervical cancer. The study will include secondary data analysis of existing data including from the GLOBE HPV study and DHS and mixed-methods research with health facilities across the country.

Job Location: Zambart House, Lusaka

Duration: 2 years

Job Summary:

The study manager will work closely with the principal investigator and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the study. The job holder will manage and oversee the implementation of the study activities, co-ordinate qualitative and quantitative research across the Zambia case study and contribute to and liaise with other WP when and if necessary. The study manager will support the Zambian Principal Investigator (PI) and will be expected to participate in wider consortium team tasks. This position is ideal for an early to mid-career researcher who is committed to epidemiological research and implementation research related to cervical cancer elimination from HPV vaccination to cervical cancer screening.

Roles and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Coordinate and oversee implementation of the InDiE study in Zambia
• Line management of the project team, including monitoring progress and performance
• Manage project timelines, and review and manage study budgets and expenses
• Identify changes in project plans and implement solutions for managing these changes.
• Work closely with Ministry of Health (district, provincial and national health authorities) and other stakeholders in related activities to conduct and share progress on study activities.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Ministry of Health and Zambart core administration.
• Working with regulatory office at Zambart to manage ethics and institutional review board (IRB) submissions.
• Working with the PI, manage quality-assurance activities for data collection, including questionnaire design, scheduling and documenting senior review, quality control of data, and editing.
• Liaise with project administrators and field team leaders to source supplies; obtaining quotations, execute purchases and manage ongoing communications.
• Support and Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Support the project funder reporting and review processes.
• Design questionnaires for the health facility surveys
• Coordinate and oversee the rigorous conduct of the qualitative study activities and surveys
• Provide support in processing and analysing epidemiological data, including routine service delivery data collected

Qualifications and experience:

• Should hold a relevant master’s degree in epidemiology, implementations science, public health or any other related field from a reputable University.
• Minimum of 2 years’ demonstrable mixed methods research experience in cervical cancer, HPV or other sexually transmitted infections-related research
• Demonstrable project management and coordination experience with Ministry of Health partners
• Excellent writing skills; key involvement in academic and pragmatic outputs 
• Team player
• Computer literate with experience in quantitative and qualitative statistical data management software. 
• Fluent in English and some Zambian languages
• Excellent research skills and ambition
• Have Integrity, and with Flexibility
