Key Responsibilities for Water Treatment Plant Operators Conduct routine maintenance on pumps, valves, feeders, and associated equipment.

Perform building and facility maintenance along with custodial duties. Read and interpret meters, gauges, and instruments, recording daily readings accurately in databases or spreadsheets.

Collect water samples and carry out water quality testing. Maintain detailed work records, including work orders, maintenance, and repair logs.

Inspect the plant and monitor water treatment processes such as coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection, ensuring compliance with ZEMA and WHO water quality standards. Operate valves, gates, and pumps to regulate water flow and chemical injection rates.

Monitor water reticulation sites by operating equipment, reading flow levels, inspecting for faults, and performing minor repairs and adjustments. Recommend basic treatment and operational adjustments to meet water quality requirements.

Assist in inspecting, testing, and evaluating supplies, materials, and equipment related to water treatment. Support KGL’s policies and objectives, ensuring ethical compliance and adherence to safety procedures.

Handle hazardous materials safely and implement lock-out/tag-out safety protocols. Respond promptly to emergency situations and operational challenges with corrective actions.

Contribute budgetary inputs related to water reticulation operations. Collaborate with SHERQ and the Environmental Officer to maintain compliance with environmental, health, safety, and security standards.

Participate in plant safety meetings and strictly follow all safety regulations. Provide emergency after-hours support and standby duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent qualification. Craft Certificate in Water Operations and Supply, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

Minimum of two years’ experience operating water treatment facilities or in a similar industrial environment. Comprehensive knowledge of water treatment processes, chemical handling, and safety protocols.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently and effectively manage time.
