Position Overview

A vacancy exists for a qualified and experienced Workshop Manager within a reputable transport operation. The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing all workshop and fleet maintenance functions, ensuring operational efficiency, compliance, and optimal vehicle availability.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification

  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic (other artisan trade qualifications may be considered)

  • Computer literacy (MS Office & PowerPoint – advanced level)

  • 5–8 years’ experience in heavy-duty vehicle maintenance

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role

  • Post-matric qualification in technical / N4 Engineering will be advantageous

  • Proven experience in vehicle fleet management

  • Sound knowledge of tyre management systems

Key Responsibilities (Job Outputs)
  • Assist in managing the technical budget

  • Oversee maintenance of the vehicle fleet

  • Manage maintenance of facilities, tools and equipment

  • Control workshop tools, equipment, and asset registers

  • Manage engineering administration functions

  • Supervise workshop personnel and identify training/development needs

  • Conduct on-the-job training for subordinates

  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act

  • Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure optimal service delivery

  • Maintain discipline within the workshop environment

Working Conditions
  • Normal transport operational conditions apply

  • Incumbent may be required to work long and irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, depending on operational requirements

Competencies Required

Knowledge:

  • Bus passenger transport industry

  • Technical/engineering maintenance practices for large fleet operations

  • Operational relationship between transport and technical departments

  • Financial management principles (budget control)

  • Human resources practices and labour legislation

  • Labour Relations Act and disciplinary procedures

  • Occupational Health and Safety Act

  • Stock and stores management procedures
