Customs Officer & Assistant Customs Officer Opportunities Zambia Sugar Plc, Zambia’s foremost sugar producer and part of the ABF Group, is currently seeking qualified candidates for customs officer jobs in Mazabuka. Available Positions Customs Officer (1 position) Assistant Customs Officer (1 position) Customs Officer Role Overview The Customs Officer will ensure compliance with the Customs and Excise Act, manage export customs declarations via ASYCUDA World, and oversee timely payments and documentation for export fees and duty drawback claims.
This role requires coordination of sugar export dispatches, monitoring trade agreements such as SADC and COMESA, and maintaining accurate records to support VAT and duty procedures. Key Responsibilities for Customs Officer Ensure adherence to customs legislation, tax obligations, and company policies.
Prepare and submit precise export customs entries using ASYCUDA World. Classify and value customs declarations correctly.
Ensure prompt payment of export fees to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA). Monitor and apply preferential trade agreements including SADC and COMESA.
Review and validate export documentation prior to submission. Coordinate dispatch and clearance of sugar exports at border points.
Maintain export dispatch tracking and sales documentation compliant with VAT Rule 18. Support internal customs procedure development and liaise with Customer Service for export clearance.
Promote compliance with ABF’s Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, Quality, Competition Law, and Anti-Corruption policies. Requirements for Customs Officer Position Grade 12 Certificate.
Relevant professional certification, diploma, or degree in Clearing and Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related fields. Customs Advanced Diploma is advantageous.
3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role with proven expertise. Membership in professional bodies such as Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply, or Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants is a plus.
Qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA). Assistant Customs Officer Role Summary The Assistant Customs Officer supports customs compliance by assisting with export declarations, maintaining records, and ensuring documentation accuracy.
This role also involves tracking shipments, assisting with audits, reconciling export transactions, and supporting the commercial team with export clearance and tax compliance. Key Responsibilities for Assistant Customs Officer Assist in preparing, reviewing, and submitting customs entries through ASYCUDA World.
Review export documentation for completeness and accuracy. Ensure availability of required permits, certificates, and licenses before processing declarations.
Maintain physical and electronic customs files and track clearance status. Support customs audits and inspections.
Administer export acquittal documentation and assist with duty drawback claims. Reconcile ASYCUDA export transactions with customer payments.
Assist in clearing business exports and support tax compliance efforts. Monitor trade agreements such as SADC and COMESA under supervision.
Provide administrative support to Customs Analyst and Officer. Qualifications for Assistant Customs Officer Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
Relevant professional certificate or diploma in Clearing and Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related disciplines. Customs Advanced Diploma is an advantage.
1 to 2 years’ experience in a similar or related role. Professional memberships with Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply, or ZICA are desirable.
