Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with conceptual and detailed process designs for beverage processing and manufacturing projects.
  • Prepare Basis of Design and Scope Definition documentation.
  • Develop, review, and interpret Process Flow Diagrams and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Compile datasheets, control philosophies, CFS / FDS documentation, and performance criteria.
  • Support procurement processes through equipment specifications and material take-offs.
  • Assist with process design, process improvement, and optimisation within a beverage manufacturing environment.
  • Review, monitor, and improve production processes to support efficiency, quality, consistency, and operational performance.
  • Assist with the selection, sizing, and improvement of process equipment, pumps, tanks, pipework, valves, gas systems, utilities, and related systems.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, testing, Performance Acceptance Tests, and project handover stages.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to gather technical information and support project implementation.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver engineering solutions.
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, draughting teams, project managers, production teams, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Interface professionally across all levels of the team and with clients.
  • Think clearly and remain calm when faced with challenges and confrontation.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, filing systems, reports, calculations, and project feedback.
  • Ensure work is completed in line with project timelines, client requirements, quality standards, health and safety procedures, and hygiene requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the production and processing environment.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, efficiency, downtime and product quality.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPA)
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with food safety standards, quality requirements and regulatory legislation.
  • Participate in factory audits and ensure compliance with quality systems such as HACCP, GMP, ISO 9001, and FSSC 22000 where applicable.
Experience & Qualification
Need to have:
  • BSc Chemical Engineering, BEng Chemical Engineering, NDip Chemical Engineering, BTech Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent relevant Chemical / Process Engineering qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience must be specifically within the beverage processing industry.
  • Experience in brewing or alcoholic beverage manufacturing will be highly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and develop PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Strong understanding of beverage manufacturing processes, production flow, process systems, plant layouts, and manufacturing operations.
  • Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
  • Must be willing and able to travel within South Africa and Africa when required.
  • Must be based in or around the Midrand area, or have reliable transport to travel to the Midrand office.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, process flow diagrams, piping layouts, equipment specifications, and project documentation.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and client interaction skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet urgent operational or project deadlines.
  • Must be reliable, organised, resourceful, assertive, and able to take initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team.
  • Organised and disciplined documentation practices.
Process systems experience required / advantageous:
  • Brewing and beverage processing, including beer, syrup, dairy, soft drinks, or related beverage environments.
  • Brewhouse, syrup room, and yeast plant systems.
  • CIP systems.
  • Tank farms and process plant layouts.
  • Gas systems, including CO₂, N₂, Air, and NH₃.
  • Boiler house and engine room systems.
  • Stainless-steel systems, pumps, tanks, valves, pipework, utilities, and production equipment.
  • Commissioning, troubleshooting, plant optimisation, or process improvement projects.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with brewing, alcoholic beverage, or beverage processing experience.
