MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
A: Component Values:

  • The employee should be able to differentiate between different components like resistors, caps and transistors as well as the sizes. Should know which components are polarized
  • The employee should be able to describe the component by looking at it and be able to sort it together kind by kind and be able to know how to treat components with polarities
  • The employee should be able to read and understand part numbers as well as the descriptions
  • At the end of the run the operator should count the completed cards and balance it with the pick-slip, before presenting it for transfer
B: Feeder Setup:
  • The employee should be able to load the components onto the correct feeder and be
  • able to adjust the pitch correctly
  • The employee should be able to assemble a stick-feeder on the machine and teach the pick-up
C: Screen-print Setup:
  • The employee should be able to switch the machine on, load the required program and secure the screen and PCB in place
  • The employee should be able to set the correct height, align the screen with the PCB and set the program to use the required spot to align
  • The employee should be able to and must clean the screens after each shift
D: Machine Setup:
  • The employee should be able to load the required program for the next job and be able to get to the component locations for that product
  • The employee should be able to change a feeder position on the feeder-plate (say from location 7 to location 12.) He should also be able to set the support pins under the board correctly
  • The employee should be able to change an IC from reel to tube and vice versa, as well as teach the pickup position correctly
  • The employee should be able to skip components on the pick and placers as well as skip a board on a panel. He should also be able to troubleshoot and assemble the first board
E: Machine operate:
  • The employee should be able to do a machine setup, feeder setup and understand the safety operation of the machine
  • The employee should be able to do adjustments on components and placement positions. He/She should also be able to do stop a card halfway and continues afterwards
  • The employee should be able to rectify error messages from the machine, or be able to translate to the service technician if need
  • The employee should demonstrate the ability to have the machine operating fluent without any component wastage
F: Oven Set-up:
  • The employee should be able to do the start-up procedure, load the required profile and do the cool-down and switch-off procedure
  • The employee should be able to adjust the width of the conveyor and set the CBS
G: Machine Program:
  • The employee should be able to do changes to the program and have it assembling within reasonable times
H: QC Inspection:
  • The employee should be able to see and understand what he/she is looking for
  • Identify dry-joints, lack of solder, too much solder, solder bridges, shorts and solder standard issues. Should be able to identify component markings and understand polarities
  • The employee should be able to rectify the problem by using the correct tools and doing it without damage to components and/or board assemblies
  • The employee should be able solder and de-solder fine pitch devices as well as under-device leads
I: Kit Preparation:
  • The employee should be able to read and understand part numbers as well as the descriptions
  • The employee should be able to work out total quantities as well as negotiate shortages
  • The employee should be able to fully understand the difference between tolerances and %’s as well as control the picking and understand how BOM’s work
  • The employee should be able to return all components to their correct bins after been used
J: Hand solder & Rework:
  • The employee should be able to fix an open circuit, short circuit, tombstone and be able to remove or re-solder a chip component and transistor with the use of a soldering iron only
  • The employee should be able to remove a short or replace solder on a dry joint
  • The employee should demonstrate the ability to remove and re-solder any SO-IC or multileaded device correctly and according to the IPC standard
  • The employee should be able to remove and re-solder any QFP or under-leaded devices like BGA’s

KEY COMPETENCIES
  • Able to communicates clear work instructions
  • Able to maintain consistent standard of performance from team
  • Must have a basic technical understanding of SMT machines
QUALIFICATION
  • In possession of Matric Certificate, coupled with experience in a SMT department
