Clydesdale is looking for a Health and safety manager to join thier Durban branch. He/ she will be responsible for leading the Development,
Implementation, and sustaining of comprehensive Health and Safety practices.
Key responsibilities
- Development, Implementation and Review of Health and Safety Policies, Safe Work Procedures; Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Work Instructions.
- Implement and maintain a Health and Safety Document Management System.
- Set annual HS Objectives and Targets. Monitor progress via a plan for annual review.
- Ensure Compilation, updating and safeguarding of Safety Files continuously for all sites and clients.
- Ensure all Health and Safety registers i.e. DIFR, NCR, Near Misses and Incidents are updated.
- Sort and file all asset release documentation in a separate file. (CLDHS SOP 011)
- Send weekly reports pertaining to all Health and Safety Admin conducted each week to the Clydesdale Sales Administrator and The Managing Director.
- Ensure monthly audits are conducted on each client site.
- Ensure attendance to all IODs reported and ensure a preliminary investigation is conducted.
- Ensure COIDA documents are completed and supporting medical reports are obtained from the hospital for submission to the compensation commissioner.
- On receipt of the final medical reports, ensure that the wages department is notified to finalise.
- Provide monthly analysis of incidents to ascertain if the correct root causes have been identified and the appropriate mitigations applied.
- Ensure all legal and statutory health and safety appointments are in place.
- Ensure the Health and Safety Committee is established and the relevant meetings are conducted quarterly as per statutory requirements.
- Ensure the HIRA is in place, reviewed and updated.
- Conduct Health and Safety compliance inspections upon each site visit.
- Ensure emergency plans are in place and regular emergency response exercises and evacuation drills are conducted.
- Ensure Safety Training is conducted.
- Communicate with the sales personnel and get familiar with all sites.
- Ensure Site Managers/Supervisors/Zone Controllers present a signed Asset Release before releasing PPE.
Skills and Qualifications- A Degree or B Tech Environmental Health or Safety Management or Equivalent backed by a strong operational experience in the relevant field.
- Certificate in HIRA, Samtrac and Incident Investigation.
- Knowledge of ISO45001, ISO9001, ISO14001.
- Knowledge of relevant Legislations i.e. OHSA and associated regulations and COIDA
- 3 years’ experience in the Health and Safety field.
- Computer Literate (Microsoft Office).
- Minimum Driver’s License code B
