Industrial Machine Technician

Full Time 1 week ago Durban, South Africa

Employment Information

This is an electro-mechanical technician, not a heavy-plant millwright — worth looking across electro-mechanical, mechatronics, automation and CNC technicians. The key is solid hands-on mechanical and electrical fault-finding on small precision machinery, with the aptitude to grow into our automatic/CNC sewing machines.

What the role involves

  • Maintaining, adjusting and repairing our production machines — industrial sewing machines and other small precision machines
  • Mechanical work: timing, shafts, bearings, cams, linkages, feed mechanisms
  • Electrical and electronic fault-finding: servo motors, sensors, control boxes
  • Preventative maintenance to keep machines running with minimal downtime
  • Over time, setting up, programming and maintaining our automatic / CNC sewing machines as the plant modernises
Essential
  • Solid hands-on experience maintaining and repairing small precision machinery
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding
  • Competent with electrical and basic electronic fault-finding (servo motors, sensors, control boxes)
  • Practical and self-driven — able to work with minimal supervision
Advantageous
  • Experience on industrial sewing machines (or willingness to be trained)
  • Experience with automated / CNC / servo- or PLC-controlled machinery, or programmable / pattern-based (CNC) sewing or stitching equipment
  • Electronics / mechatronics aptitude — comfortable learning new control systems and software
  • Adjacent light-machinery background (packaging, printing, embroidery, textile, laboratory or office-machine equipment)
